The More We Are Together (Filey)

An intergenerational film making project in Filey.

In the summer of 2004 a group of young people and a group of old people came together in Filey to share their experiences of being young in different eras. The hope was that through sharing these experiences, a greater level of trust and understanding would develop.

The project was devised in conjunction with young people from the Princes Trust Excel Group who worked with residents of the Silver Birches residential home to uncover stories of their youth which had resonance with their own experiences of being young. The young people then took several of these stories and contemporised then in a piece of devised drama. A film was the result and was distributed on DVD.

This project was commissioned by the Scarborough Borough Safer Communities Partnership as an innovative means of tackling the fear of crime amongst elderly residents of the town. Filey actually has a very low crime rate.
